Nine areas to experience a power outage in Johannesburg
Nine areas will experience a planned power outage in Johannesburg on Thursday, 6 August 2026 and Monday, 10 August 2026. The outage is intended to last for eight hours. City Power Johannesburg wrote in a statement that the outage aims to do essential maintenance on their electricity network.  “The interruption is part of our program of constantly striving to provide a better service,” the statement read.  POWER OUTAGE AFFECTS NINE AREAS Areas part of Cyndia Substation will experience an outage from 9:00 to 17:00 on Thursday, 6 August 2026. The areas are namely: Bernam Corlet Drive VW Melrose Atholl Oaklands Toyota Melrose Blu Bird Shopping Centre Nissan Melrose In Banfield Switching Station, these areas will have an outage on Monday, 10 August 2026, from 8:00 to 16:00: Industria North Banfield Road The electricity provider cautioned customers to use their electricity supply points as live as power may be restored at any time. TERMINATION CABLE SUPPLYING ALEXANDRA SWITCHING STATION EXPLODES A termination cable supplying Alexandra Switching Station exploded on Monday, 3 August 2026, according to a statement by City Power Johannesburg. The termination resulted in parts of Florida and surrounding areas experiencing a power outage.  “The team is still on site investigating the cause of the explosion. Details on the damage and repair plan will be communicated after investigations,” read the statement.
