Married at First Sight Mzansi reunion: Part 2 raises unanswered questions, introduces uncut series
If part 1 of the Married at First Sight Mzansi reunion was about apologies and tension, part 2 was about what got left on the table. The reunion was set to continue on 11 October, with more unresolved tensions expected to surface, and it delivered. Several statements with real consequences were dropped and then left unexamined by host Lerato Mvelase. The rumour trail nobody followed The most striking moment involved a rumour about Hlulani Ngobeni’s sexuality. According to Prince, his wife Esethu was the one spreading it. It then emerged that Hlulani was the person who relayed this to his wife, Nompumelelo Sobopha. He agreed to confirm it, but only grudgingly, and Mvelase skated past the admission without asking who said what, or why it was passed on.A claim that is serious deserves a follow-up and clarification. Instead, the conversation moved on. “He was gossiping too” Nompumelelo also claimed that Hlulani was an active participant in the gossip that he has, thus far, been solely attributing to her. This matters because Hlulani’s written list of her private remarks sat at the centre of the “secrets and rumours” confrontation earlier this season, which drew a viewer backlash against Pastor X and the rest of the expert panel. Hlulani defended himself by saying he had secretly recorded what was said and that he’d be happy for production to play it for everyone. They did not take him up on it. That leaves the audience with two competing versions and no way to test either, and a husband who says he has proof that was never aired. The list that changed Viewers who rewatch closely will notice a discrepancy. The screenshot of Hlulani’s list shown earlier in the season differs from the one displayed at the reunion. In the reunion version, two sections are blurred out; the earlier version had one. Both sections reference experts Pastor X and Dr Mpume Zenda. Whether this is an edit, a different draft or a production choice was not addressed or explained. Mvelase announced that the drama continues in a six-part series, Married At First Sight Mzansi: Uncut. She will co-host with Season 1 contestant Boitshepo Mashetla. Air dates and times haven’t been confirmed. Whether Uncut answers what the reunion skipped remains to be seen, but the unexplored parts of the reunion episodes make a strong case for it.

‘Culture of waste’ costs Mpumalanga R6.7bn in three years, report shows
Mpumalanga has recorded R6.78 billion in unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure over three financial years, with experts blaming a lack of consequence management, corruption and poor financial controls. The auditor-general (AG) has raised concerns about the provincial government’s failure to hold departments and entities accountable for repeatedly failing to comply with key legislation. AG raised concerns about Mpumalanga’s failure to hold departments accountable According to the audit report, the province recorded R2.01 billion in irregular expenditure in the 2023-24 financial year, followed by R1.51 billion in 2024-25 and R3.26 billion in 2025-26. The AG also raised concerns about the R225 million spent on officials who had been suspended for extended periods, including: The department of health accounted for R219.86 million in suspension-related costs involving multiple officials; The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency spent R3 million on the suspension of its chief executive officer; The department of culture, sport and recreation incurred R460 000 on the suspension of its head of department; and The department of education spent R490 000 on the suspension of multiple officials. The report identified the provincial government’s failure to implement consequence management for departments and entities that repeatedly breached key legislation as a contributing factor to the expenditure. DA MPL Trudie Grové-Morgan welcomed the AG’s recommendation that political and administrative leaders institutionalise controls and accountability measures. The recommendation also calls for departments and entities to work together to address persistent weaknesses by strengthening accountability and monitoring the implementation of corrective action. DA call for automated procurement processes “We are calling on the provincial government to introduce automated procurement processes, which will help strengthen compliance, prevent corruption and ensure greater transparency,” Grové-Morgan said. Political analyst Theo Neethling said the latest audit outcomes presented a contradictory picture of provincial governance. “Although eight provincial institutions achieved clean audits, the scale of irregular, unauthorised, fruitless and wasteful expenditure raises serious concerns,” Neethling said. “The fact that this expenditure has accumulated to R6.78 billion over three financial years, with R3.26 billion in irregular expenditure recorded in 2025-26 alone, points to deep-seated problems regarding financial control and legislative compliance.” He said the central question was whether the province had the political and administrative will to address the root causes of the problems. Lack of effective consequence management “The primary problem appears to be a lack of effective consequence management,” he said. “When irregular spending occurs repeatedly without investigations being concluded or responsible officials being held accountable, a management culture emerges in which violating financial regulations carries few visible consequences.” Neethling said poor supply chain management, inadequate contract management and flawed infrastructure project planning exacerbated the problem. “Consequently, carrying over billions of rands in outstanding expenditure from one financial year to the next is not simply an accounting matter, it signals a lack of timely action and sufficient institutional accountability,” he said. He said the provincial government needed to ensure that suspicious expenditure was investigated promptly and that negligence and corruption, where proven, resulted in appropriate disciplinary or criminal consequences. Long-standing problem over past 15 years Political analyst Sandile Swana said unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure had been a long-standing problem in Mpumalanga over the past 15 years. “The key drivers of this are the long-running culture of corruption, as well as the consistent appointment of corrupt and generally incompetent political representatives,” Swana said. He alleged that people fighting corruption in the province faced reprisals, while those supporting it were regarded as trusted soldiers of “corrupt ANC leaders”. Another political analyst, Ntsikelelo Breakfast said the recurring nature of the expenditure indicated that those responsible were not facing consequences. “The fact that people keep on doing the same thing year in and year out means there are no consequences,” Breakfast said. Measures to curb irregular expenditure Mpumalanga government spokesperson George Mthethwa said they were implementing measures to curb unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure. These include training supply chain management officials, monitoring spending and automating procurement processes. Mthethwa said the irregular expenditure increase in the 2025-26 financial year was partly due to a disclosed amount of R2.05 billion. Government planned to introduce an electronic tender system by next April and roll out electronic quotations by April 2028.

PSL’s 4 coaches under pressure: Who has more to prove?
The coaches of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Kaizer Chiefs are fighting to stay atop the PSL. At the other end of the table, Richards Bay have appointed a new coach to save them from relegation. Here’s why these 4 coaches are under pressure just a few rounds into the new domestic campaign. Pantev joins Richards Bay in quest for survival The Bulgarian coach was announced on 21 September on a one-season deal with the club. Pantev steps into the role left by the sudden departure of former coach Ronnie Gabriel. Gabriel had only been appointed in July, with Richards Bay FC failing to record a win under his tenure. Pantev has an uphill task at the helm, as the club hovers just above the relegation zone. According to the PSL website, Richards Bay are 14th with 3 draws and 4 losses from 7 games so far. The tactician faces a trial by fire against Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday, 13 October. Da Cruz needs to end Kaizer Chiefs’ drought A few games into the season, Amakhosi fans were starting to believe. French coach Fernando da Cruz had led the team to the PSL top 3, keeping pace with Pirates and Sundowns. Just a few stumbles later, and Kaizer Chiefs are now 4th after being overtaken by AmaZulu. It’s been a reality check for the Naturena giants, whose PSL drought is now a decade long. Chiefs need to get back on track when they host Stellenbosch FC on Tuesday night. Instead, the Buccaneers were silenced in Durban, conceding 2 goals as Sundowns got the job done instead. Moroccan coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is now under pressure to deliver a resounding response. With 2 CAF Champions League dates coming up, as well as the Carling Knockout Cup, the heat is on. Pirates have a game in hand over Sundowns, ahead of their home clash against TS Galaxy on Tuesday. Cardoso keeps Sundowns’ quintuple hopes alive Many wondered how Sundowns would respond to their 8-season PSL streak ending by Pirates. Miguel Cardoso gave the emphatic answer in the MTN8 final on 10 October, claiming the trophy. The Portuguese coach has led Sundowns to the top of the PSL table, but the race remains tight. On the continental front, Sundowns are favourites over Wiliete SC in the CAF Champions League. The Carling Knockout Cup also returns from 24 October, offering another opportunity for silverware. It may be too soon to call, but the seeds for a historic quintuple are there for Cardoso and Sundowns.
