Anele Tembe inquest: Cocaine, alcohol found in her system as AKA’s father questions ‘puzzle’
The inquest into the death of Anele Tembe, the late fiancée of murdered rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, has reportedly heard further evidence about substances detected in her body. The matter returned to the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, as proceedings continued to establish the circumstances surrounding Tembe’s death. Tembe died after falling from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Loop Street, Cape Town, on 11 April 2021. She was 22 at the time. Toxicology expert testifies in Anele Tembe death inquest According to media reports, evidence presented during Tuesday’s proceedings included the findings of a toxicology analysis conducted on samples collected from Tembe on 21 April 2021. The toxicologist who testified told the court that the samples contained cocaine, alongside substances associated with antidepressants and antipsychotic medication. The analysis also identified a substance produced as a result of a combination of consumed cocaine and alcohol called cocaethylene in addition to norcocaine, which is associated with cocaine metabolism. Despite identifying these substances, the expert reportedly indicated that the findings could not accurately determine the time when the cocaine was taken. The inquest previously heard evidence concerning Forbes’ physical condition in the hours following Tembe’s death. It was alleged that the rapper testified that he had several scratch marks on his body. Tony Forbes expresses frustration Tony Forbes, the late rapper’s father, voiced his concerns following Monday’s adjournment about what he believes has been inadequate questioning of certain aspects of the evidence presented during the inquest. His concerns included the scratch marks found on his son’s body and speculation about whether Tembe had been pushed or had jumped from the hotel building. He also highlighted what he regarded as inconsistencies in witness accounts, particularly the testimony of Lieutenant-Colonel Jeremy Philander, a chief forensic analyst. “For me, there’s nothing conclusive to show that it was a push or that it was [a jump]. “There seemed to be a lot of focus on the distance and the mechanics around the fall, but there were other things in his affidavit that I felt was just not focused on enough,” the father told news reporters. “I thought the magistrate and the prosecution would pick up on it and question and it just doesn’t seem to be happening. “We just seem to be going through the motions,” Tony added. Reflecting on the difficulty of establishing exactly what happened, he said: “Neither of them are here so it is a puzzle. “The puzzle is being built with the wrong pieces in the absence of the right information being put on the table.”

Warning: Rand Water calls on customers to reduce consumption as crisis looms
Rand Water has warned of a looming crisis as several customers’ water consumption has reached exceptionally high levels, putting the supply system under increasing pressure. The water utility has called on all municipal customers to reduce their water consumption to stabilise the system. Reduce your water consumption, customers – Rand Water Rand Water said on Wednesday that although it is pumping at maximum capacity, water demand continues to rise and consumption has reached record levels. Source: Rand Water “Sustained overconsumption is making it increasingly difficult to balance supply across the network and heightens the risk of disruptions unless demand is brought under control,” the utility said. Rand Water said it has repeatedly warned municipalities about high consumption. The utility said its engagements with municipalities have focused on coordinating mitigation strategies and finding new ways to improve the water supply system. “Despite these efforts, persistent high consumption in certain areas continues to undermine the sustainable balance of supply across the network,” the water utility said. High consumption undermines sustainable balance “Rand Water therefore calls on all over-consuming municipal customers to reduce consumption in line with their allocated volumes.” The utility said reducing consumption immediately is essential to prevent system failure and ensure supply continues. It said it would also take appropriate steps to protect the system and limit water supply to overconsuming customers. “Rand Water is duty-bound to protect the bulk supply system and will not hesitate to take appropriate action where necessary. Water conservation is a shared responsibility,” Rand Water said. “Municipalities, residents and businesses are urged to use water responsibly to help ensure a sustainable and equitable supply for all.”

Relebohile Mofokeng was recently linked with interest from French side Lille and the German giants Bayer Leverkusen. According to the Ekrem Kanur, the Turkish global transfers reporter, interest has gathered momentum. The latest update says scouts from both clubs have continued to keep tabs on the 21-year-old forward, following six goals and two assists in 14 games for club and country. INTEREST IN RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG Kanur reports that bids worth €15 million could be expected arrive during the upcoming January transfer window. In addition to Lille and Leverkusen’s interest, Mofokeng’s name has been discussed in meetings at Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Brighton and Napoli. “Relebohile Mofokeng continues to attract strong interest from across Europe,” the report said. “Monitoring → Scouts from Lille and Bayer Leverkusen are continuing to track the 21-year-old Union SG winger. “Offers in the region of €15 million could arrive for the South African talent in January. Atlético Madrid, Napoli, Chelsea and Brighton are also closely monitoring the youngster’s progress,” Kanur concluded. FAST START IN EUROPE The former Orlando Pirates star has adapted quickly to European football and has become an important creative option for Union SG coach David Hubert. His competitive debut was particularly memorable. On 31 July, Mofokeng came off the bench against Club Brugge in the Belgian Super Cup final before converting the decisive penalty in the shootout. He then announced himself in the Belgian Pro League, scoring on his league debut against K.V.C. Westerlo on 8 August. His performances have included a standout display against Royal Antwerp, where he helped dictate the tempo during a 2-0 victory. His European adventure has also included the UEFA Europa League, where he scored in Union SG’s 3-0 victory over Viktoria Plzeň on 17 September. Mofokeng continued to make his presence felt on Sunday, laying on a brilliant assist to help Union SG secure a 3-0 victory over KFC Nijlen in the Belgian Cup. David Hubert has already acknowledged the competition for places within his squad. But Mofokeng’s performances have strengthened his case for a regular role.
