WATCH: Nearly R32k donated to BMW security guard after ‘bullying’ incident
Motorists have rallied behind 27-year-old BMW Kempton Park security guard Teboho Kabayi, donating R31 900 after a viral video showed a man claiming to be a millionaire speaking disrespectfully to him while he was enforcing the dealership’s access-control procedures. The motorists are part of Glen on Cars, an automotive movement based in Johannesburg. In a video posted on social media, one of the motorists said it was disheartening to see Kabayi spoken to in that manner. “We are not millionaires, but we try. So we came here to support our friend at BMW, make him feel comfortable, and we gave him some lunch money,” he said in the video. I hate it when people have money but don't respect other people's jobs. Having money doesn't give anyone the right to look down on others. Every honest job deserves respect. pic.twitter.com/52wwOcIZee— MZulu wa Limpopo (@KabeloMohlah02) July 16, 2026 Damn, just like that his life is about to become better pic.twitter.com/UvnTP69fBj— B.E.N.Z.O (@Benzo_Ndlovu) July 16, 2026 BMW security guard gets ‘lunch’ money Towards the end of the video, it shows a man transferring R31 900 to Kabayi’s bank account. This follows a video that trended earlier in the week, in which Kabayi asked a man which department he was going to in BMW Kempton Park, then asked for his driver’s licence to scan it. But the question and the request for a driver’s licence led the man to berate Kabayi. However, the security guard remained calm throughout the video, stating he was just doing his job. BMW says matter is resolved The man asked Kabayi why he needed to know which department he was going to, and whether he had ever seen a multi-millionaire who stole. He went on to say he could hire Kabayi to wash cars. In a media statement released by BMW on Friday, the dealership’s management said it is aware of the incident and it has been resolved. “BMW Kempton Park is aware of the video currently circulating on social media that relates to an interaction involving a member of the security team at our dealership,” read the statement. “Following constructive engagement with the customer concerned, we confirm that the matter has been discussed directly and resolved amicably.” No wrongdoing The dealership further said it had reviewed the circumstances surrounding the incident and found that Kabayi was carrying out his duties in accordance with the safety and access-control procedures at the business. “At all times, his actions were aimed at maintaining a safe and secure environment for our customers, colleagues, visitors and business partners, and we commend his professional and respectful conduct. “The safety and security of everyone entering our premises remain a top priority. To support this commitment, we work closely with trusted security partners.” Security guard breaks silence Sowetan reported Kabayi said he was surprised by the man’s conduct as he thought he was just frustrated. “I just thought he was frustrated or that he had brought the car in for a service and something was not fixed properly. “I didn’t even get angry, but I could see that he was angry. He asked why I wanted his licence, as it contained personal information. I explained to him that it was for security reasons and procedure. He then told me that I was cheap, and that he was a millionaire.” Kabayi said he will use the donated money to expand his bakery business. He sells bread and cakes that he bakes on his off days.

Antonelli pips Verstappen to take pole at Belgian Grand Prix
Championship leader Kimi Antonelli roared to pole position for Mercedes on Saturday when he beat Red Bull’s four-time champion Max Verstappen in the final seconds of Belgian Grand Prix qualifying. The 19-year-old Italian clocked a superbly-executed best lap in one minute and 44.361 seconds to outpace the Dutchman by 0.317sec with defending champion Lando Norris third for McLaren. Norris has a 10-place grid penalty for Sunday’s race after taking a new engine. It was Antonelli’s sixth pole this year and extended Mercedes run to 10 consecutive poles this season. His success came with the biggest pole-winning margin of the season. “Let’s go man,” cried Antonelli on team radio. “Let’s go!” Reminded it was his father Marco’s birthday, he added: “Happy birthday, Dad.” In his on-track interview, the Italian said he was happy with his display. “The last lap was good. It was a nice lap. It was very clean, so very happy,” he said. ‘Important to get a good start’ “Tomorrow is another day, with Max starting next to me it will be important to get a good start and be ahead into Turn 5.” George Russell was fourth for Mercedes ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, who had crashed earlier in the day, with Oscar Piastri seventh in the second McLaren. Racing Bull’s’ rookie Arvid Lindblad was eighth ahead of Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto and Isack Hadjar, in the second Red Bull, who also faces a penalty and will start from the back of the grid. Verstappen admitted that his pace, to secure a front-row spot, was down to assistance he received from team-mate Hadjar offering a slip-steaming ‘tow’ on his laps. “I wouldn’t be here without that,” the Dutchman said. “It was a definite help for me. If not, I would be like P6. Today, knowing he is to start at the back of the grid, Isack did a really good job giving me a tow.” Bottas was first out in Q1 for Cadillac in continued dry conditions as the rest filed out in pursuit, including Hamilton who had smacked the barriers in his Ferrari at the end of final free practice. Verstappen was the first front-runner to go for a push lap in 1:45.930, an impressive start and beyond Antonelli’s immediate riposte as Lindblad and Hadjar went second before Norris took control in 1:45.865. The fastest three sat out the second runs, when Hamilton rose to fourth in his Ferrari ‘rebuild’. The two Aston Martins, both Cadillacs and Esteban Ocon of Haas and Williams’ Alex Albon were eliminated. The second qualifying session began with Franco Colapinto leading out, but once the flying laps began, Antonelli again showed real pace. The session ended with Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls, both Alpines, Audi’s Nico Hulkenberg, who suffered an hydraulics leak, Williams’ Carlos Sainz and Oliver Bearman of Haas all eliminated. Impressive rookie Lindblad went through to Q3 in sixth in his upgraded Racing Bulls car, ahead of Piastri and Russell.

Sublime Springboks demolish hapless Wales
The Springboks completed an unbeaten southern series leg of the Nations Championship with a record win against Wales in Durban on Saturday. The Boks scored seven tries to triumph 43-0 and inflict yet another demoralising defeat on Wales. It was the third Test win and fourth overall victory in 2026 for the back-to-back world champions, who now sit atop the Nations Championship’s Southern Hemisphere table. New Zealand are level on points with South Africa, but are in second position in the standings because the Boks have a better points differential. Both sides fielded much-changed line-ups for varying reasons, and many would argue the Springboks fielded a second-string lineup. And yet, the result speaks to a squad with such frightening depth that team put out by Rassie Erasmus can compete with any Tier One Test nation. FIRST HALF RECAP: SPRINGBOKS SHOW THEIR CLASS The Springboks started brilliantly after a typically rousing rendition of their national anthem, with Jasper Wiese scoring a blinder of a try in the opening minutes. And the gulf in quality between the teams soon became even more apparent as the hosts started to dominate the collisions. That pressure began to tell on the Welsh defence and Cobus Reinach and Jesse Kriel exploited that as they crossed for two tries. Test debutant Vusi Moyo – who had a solid overall game – slotted two of those three conversions to give the Springboks a 19-0 lead at the break. SECOND HALF RECAP: WELSH DEFENCE STEM THE FLOW, BUT BOK ATTACK PREVAIL Not everything went according to plan for the Springboks as the Welsh defence frustrated the hosts, keeping them scoreless in the third quarter. But when the game hit the hour mark and after the Springboks’ bench was almost cleared out, Erasmus’ men shifted into gear. Jaco Williams, who provided an aerial assist Kriel’s try, scuttled in for a try on debut. And to cap off his fine showing, Williams assisted scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies’ try on his long-awaited return to the Bok fold. Speedster Kurt-Lee Arendse was next to cross for a five-pointer. The game went into somewhat of a lull, but it was the Springboks who had the final say in the dying stages of the contest when Paul de Villiers barged over from a maul to wrap up the result. And yet despite the outcome and flattering scoreline, you can’t help to feel that the Springboks left a lot of points out there.

9 changes confirmed: Kaizer Chiefs starting XI vs Elche CF in Spain
Kaizer Chiefs and Elche meet in Murcia, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00, with Elche broadcasting the game on their YouTube channel. Head coach Fernando Da Cruz has started with nine players who started on the bench against Al-Kholood. However, many of them started in the opening friendly against Rangers FC. KAIZER CHIEFS STARTING LINE UP Utility player Reeve Fosler is the only surviving starter from the 1-1 draw against Al-Kholood midweek. Kaizer Chiefs starting XI: Brandon Petersen (captain), Thabiso Monyane, Given Msimango, Inácio Miguel, Reeve Frosler, Lebohang Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Mfundo Vilakazi, Luke Baartman, Flávio Silva. Substitutes: To be confirmed. Elche returned to La Liga after winning promotion at the end of the 2024/25 campaign. They then secured another season in Spain’s top flight by finishing 15th in the 20-team table during the 2025/26 season. The Spanish side only confirmed their survival on the final day after holding Girona to a 1-1 draw. Along the way, they produced several eye-catching results, including a 2-2 draw away to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu in November 2025 and a memorable 3-2 home victory over Atlético Madrid in April 2026. AMAKHOSI NEW ERA Kaizer Chiefs will head into the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season with a fresh look under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz. The French-Portuguese mentor has been tasked with restoring the club to title contention after Amakhosi finished third last season. He is also reshaping the squad, with the aim of working with a lean group of around 28 to 30 senior players. The Soweto giants have already strengthened key areas ahead of the new campaign. They signed Thabo Moloisane from Stellenbosch FC. Goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner has arriced from Sekhukhune United. Striker Khanyisa Mayo has signed a permanent deal. Those arrivals have increased competition for places as Da Cruz builds a squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts. Kaizer Chiefs have also stepped up their preparations with a pre-season training camp in Murcia, Spain. The tour has given the coaching staff an opportunity to improve fitness, test different combinations and implement Da Cruz’s tactical ideas before the new season begins.
