Hyundai recalls over 250 Tucson SUVs in SA over airbag safety concern
Owners of certain Hyundai Tucson vehicles are being urged to act after a national recall was announced over concerns that some models may have been fitted with side-impact airbag sensors that do not meet the required specifications. The National Consumer Commission (NCC) announced the recall of 253 Hyundai Tucson NX4 vehicles that were made available for sale across South Africa in 2025. Affected vehicles According to the commission, the recall follows information from Hyundai Automotive South Africa indicating that some affected vehicles may have been fitted with side-impact airbag sensors with incorrect specifications. The NCC said vehicle owners should have their vehicles inspected as soon as possible to determine whether the correct sensor has been installed. “Some vehicles may have been fitted with a side impact airbag sensor with incorrect specifications.” Assessment Consumers who own affected Hyundai Tucson NX4 models are being urged to contact their nearest authorised Hyundai dealership and book their vehicles for inspection. Hyundai will use its diagnostic (GDS) equipment to determine whether the correct side-impact airbag sensor was fitted during production. “Owners must have the affected vehicles inspected using Hyundai’s diagnostic (GDS) equipment to determine whether the correct sensor has been fitted.” Inspection The commission stressed that the inspection process aims to identify affected vehicles and ensure any necessary corrective action is taken without delay. Hyundai dealerships nationwide have been instructed to inspect vehicles and carry out any required remedial work if a faulty or incorrect sensor is identified. “Consumers who own affected vehicles are urged to book an inspection at their nearest authorised Hyundai dealership.” Cost The NCC also assured consumers that they will not incur any costs related to the recall process. “Any remedial work will be carried out at no cost to the consumer.” The commission encouraged affected motorists to respond promptly to the recall notice and arrange inspections to ensure their vehicles meet the required safety specifications.

Man who burned girlfriend’s body to cover up murder jailed for 25 years
A Johannesburg High Court has sentenced a 34-year-old man to an effective 25 years behind bars after he admitted to killing his girlfriend, burning her body in an apparent attempt to cover up the crime, and misleading both her family and the police about her disappearance. Siyo Gift Mcedisi appeared in the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg, sitting at Palm Ridge, after the State and the defence reached a plea and sentence agreement under Section 105A of the Criminal Procedure Act. Sentence He was accused of the murder of his girlfriend, Samkelisiwe Charlotte Ntinga, and defeating the ends of justice. Mcedisi was sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment for murder and a further two years for defeating the ends of justice. The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently, resulting in an effective 25-year jail term. According to court proceedings, Mcedisi and Ntinga were in a romantic relationship and lived together in Alberton with their two-year-old daughter. Murder The fatal incident occurred on 30 July 2025 after an argument erupted when Mcedisi discovered that Ntinga had been communicating with a former boyfriend. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole said that during the altercation, Mcedisi repeatedly forced Ntinga’s head against a closed door. Mohlatlole said the final blow caused severe head injuries, resulting in her death. “The court further heard that Mcedisi attempted to conceal the crime by using Ntinga’s cellphone to send WhatsApp messages to her employer and mother, creating the impression that she was still alive. “On 1 August 2025, he transported her body to an open field in Coronation Park, Krugersdorp, where he set it alight before abandoning it. He then falsely reported her missing to the police and her family. Her burnt body was discovered a day later,” Mohlatlole said. Confession The case took another turn on 22 August 2025 when Mcedisi confessed to a social worker at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital after being admitted following a failed suicide attempt. He was subsequently arrested. When considering sentence, Senior State Advocate Matshediso Phatlanyane and the defence considered the seriousness of the offences, the interests of the community, and Mcedisi’s personal circumstances. The parties agreed that substantial and compelling circumstances justified a departure from the prescribed minimum sentence of life imprisonment for murder. These circumstances included his guilty plea, lack of previous convictions, expression of remorse and the time he had spent in custody awaiting the finalisation of the case. Conviction Mohlatole said the conviction and sentence underscore the prosecuting authority’s commitment to holding perpetrators of gender-based violence and femicide accountable. “This sentence demonstrates that those who commit violent crimes against women will be prosecuted and held accountable for their actions. The NPA remains steadfast in its fight against gender-based violence and femicide and will continue to pursue justice for victims and their families.” GBV Mohlatole said the outcome also aligns with ongoing national efforts to combat violence against women and children. “We hope this sentence sends a strong message that violence against women has devastating consequences and that the criminal justice system will act decisively against offenders.” The NPA reiterated its commitment to fighting gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), in line with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent call for decisive action against violence targeting women and children.

‘What did she do’? Fans speculate why Tracy Hlophe MUST apologise
In an episode of Life with Felix that aired on 18 October 2026, fans speculated about why reality TV star and entrepreneur Tracy Hlophe was expected to apologise after her in-laws hinted that her past actions were unsavoury. FANS SPECULATE WHY TRACY HLOPHE MUST APOLOGISE When Nozipho Hlophe, Felix’s older sister, visited him at home, he opened up about the state of his marriage to Tracy. He revealed that they were co-parenting since they were living apart and admitted he was lonely because of the distance between them. The Gagasi FM breakfast host then lifted the lid on a deeper family issue: his two older siblings, Bhabha and Lulu, still haven’t forgiven Tracy for her past actions and would only reconcile with her after she apologised. In an effort to move the family forward, Nozipho then heads to Lulu’s home to hear her side of the story. Lulu explains that after speaking to their older brother, Bhabha, about Tracy wanting to take accountability for her actions, he suggested that they carry out a traditional ceremony where she could formally apologise to the Hlophe family, including their ancestors. It was at this point that viewers started wondering what Tracy had actually done to warrant a whole traditional ceremony. One theory that dominated X (formerly Twitter) was that Tracy may have cheated on Felix, especially after he hinted that the infidelity that she spoke about in Season 1 has been wrongly perceived as having come from him side. Everyone has an opinion when it comes to Tracy bandla. 😅 Catch #LifeWithFelixMzansi this Sunday, 11 October, at 19:00. #DStvExpectMore Mzansi Magic (@Mzansimagic) October 17, 2026 FANS THROW IN THEIR TWO CENTS @MandisaM: What did she do?
