Tanzania strike late to hand Banyana WAFCON shock
Banyana Banyana’s 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Group B campaign got off to a dreadful start on Monday, as a late goal from Tanzanian youngster Hasnath Ubamba condemned them to a 2-1 defeat at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca. Ubamba stuns Banyana The 20-year-old Ubamba struck in the 87th minute to seal the shock of the tournament so far, and leave Desiree Ellis’ side with a mountain to climb if they are to make the quarterfinals. Banyana dominated most of the play in the early stages with Noxolo Cesane and Thembi Kgatlana causing problems for the Tanzania defence. In the 6th minute, Kgatlana found space to shoot but her effort lacked power and was easily saved by Naijat Idrissa. Kgatlana then found Cesane with a good pass in the 10th minute, but the Mamelodi Sundowns star’s effort was deflected over the bar. Cesane had an even better opportunity two minutes later, after she was again found by Kgatlana. But this time she badly missed her kick. Tanzania were mainly playing on the break, but had their chances. Forward Opah Clement had a good opportunity in the 14th minute but her shot was tame and easy for Andile Dlamini in the Banyana goal. Tanzania also came close to regaining the lead in the 66th minute, as Clement got to a long ball before Dlamini, and her header was superbly headed over her own crossbar by Gamede. Banyana then courted disaster as Lebohang Ramalepe’s attempted header back to Dlamini went straight past her, but the Banyana goalkeeper recovered to gather the ball. In the 18th minute, Cesane found HIldah Magaia with a good pass and her effort flew just over the bar. Ramalepe also had a shot that was easy for Idrissa but it was Tanzania who stunned Banyana in the 38th minute. Diana Msewa burst forward from midfield and was allowed to run all the way into the penalty area where her shot deflected off Bongeka Gamede and past Dlamini. Mbane finds the leveller Banyana rallied and were level in first half stoppage time. Kgatlana’s shot was brilliantly pushed wide by Idrissa, but from the resulting corner the Tanzania keeper parried the ball straight to Bambanani Mbane and she headed home. Ellis made a change at the break, with Nthabiseng Majiya coming on for Robyn Moodaly-Salgado. But while Banyana pushed Tanzania back in the early stages of the second half, they were unable to truly trouble Idrissa. Tanzania certainly tested Dlamini in the 57th minute, as Clement won a free kick on the edge of the box. Ubamba stepped up and curled in a fine effort that Dlamini sprung to her right to superbly tip away. Tanzania also came close to regaining the lead in the 66th minute, as Clement got to a long ball before Dlamini, and her header was superbly headed over her own crossbar by Gamede. Banyana had a great chance to score in the 71st minute. Karabo Dhlamini’s cross was met by Majiya, but she couldn’t direct her effort on target from a few metres out. Substitute Gabriela Moodaly-Salgado tested Idrissa with a low shot as the time ticked away but despite their late pressure Banyana couldn’t find another goal. And they were punished as with just three minutes left Ubamba cut in from the left and drilled a low shot past Dlamini.

‘Time fathers paid maintenance’: Backlash over SASSA Children’s Grants
Not everyone reacting to the SASSA Children’s Grants amendments wants stricter limits; some want the system to look harder at who actually needs help and who should be paying instead. Commenter Sandi Rogers said she understood the need for a grant in cases where a father cannot find work or has passed away, but suggested that food parcels, medical assistance and free schooling support might be more effective than a blanket cash grant. Coreen Isabella Kruger echoed the call for closer scrutiny, arguing that SASSA should check household income and individual circumstances before making decisions, pointing out that some fathers who do work still can’t cope with low wages, while some mothers have lost jobs or husbands and are genuinely struggling. Fathers in the spotlight Virginia Olieslager February took a more direct line, saying it’s time fathers of these children start paying maintenance, placing responsibility back on absent parents rather than the state. Meanwhile, Bee Fuze summed up growing frustration with a blunt question: where do people sign to stop the grants system, “with immediate effect. Together, the comments reflect a public that isn’t simply anti-Children’s Grants but increasingly wants a system that properly verifies need and holds absent parents accountable, rather than one that relies purely on monthly cash payments. Derick Hougaard relationships: Love, loss and scandals
Derick Hougaard’s cry for help has touched the hearts of many South Africans. The former Springbok – who was once married to a popular Afrikaans singer and dated another – has appeared to have hit rock bottom after several public scandals. DERICK HOUGAARD RELATIONSHIPS: KARLIEN TO NADINE Here’s a look back at Derick Hougaard’s high-profile relationships… The rugby star and singer, and actress Karlien van Jaarsveld were married from 2013 to 2015 and share twin boys, Eliah and Daniel. In 2018, Derick made headlines when his ex-wife claimed their twin boys had gone “missing” while in his custody. She also claimed that Derick was “drunk” during a day out with their kids. However, the incident turned out to be a misunderstanding, and the children were found safely in Derick’s care. Derick Hougaard en Karlien van Jaarsveld skei, kraai me a river pic.twitter.com/meE8heoeTp— Stix Gevaaalik (@gevaaalikdotcom) September 2, 2015 In a Facebook post shortly after, Karlien claimed that a court had granted Derick supervised visits to his “pill and alcohol addiction” She shared: “He has been in and out of rehabilitation centres several times. I was terrified of concern because I feared for the safety of my children”. Karlien added that Derick had also not paid child support, and she had been financing her children. That same year, Derick Hougaard began dating another Afrikaans singer, Nadine Hoffeldt. The couple would make their first red carpet appearance together at the Miss South Africa pageant. Derick and Nadine would also make regular features on each other’s social media accounts. “She’s a piece of gold. There aren’t many or any more girls like that left”, he said of his partner. SA. #Miss SA @DerickHougaard @Netwerk24 pic.twitter.com/BLzckDsgf4— Murray Louw (@murrayvideo) May 27, 2018 Just a few months later, a publication published pictures of Derick Hougaard seemingly in bed with another woman. Nadine confirmed with the media that she had discovered Derick in bed with a mystery blonde woman in a hotel room. She also revealed that she was “beyond broken.” Derick also spoke to the publication but denied cheating on Nadine. Instead, he claimed he was “heavily under the influence” and could not remember much from the night. The couple “patched things up” and continued to date over the next few years. In 2022, Nadine hinted at ending her roller-coaster relationship with Derick Hougaard. She posted on social media: “Four years. Six months. 20 days. It’s over. Final.” The post was deleted hours later. Derick responded to the break-up rumours saying: “I don’t know, I suppose, I don’t know. I can’t talk right now…” Derick later hinted at the hotel room saga, posting on Facebook: “I was framed for doing something I did not do”. In 2023, Nadine found Derick unconscious at his Pretoria home. She would continue to support him through his health battles, which saw him land in a medically induced coma in the ICU. A year later, Nadine and Derick split for good. ANOTHER WOMAN IN THE PICTURE? According to reports, Derick Hougaard was snapped at the bar and later in bed with a young blonde woman. However, the woman, identified as a marketing assistant, claimed that she had been merely helping an intoxicated Derick into bed. Since his split from Nadine in 2024, Derick has kept a low public profile.
