Rassie gives indication which Bok players will be going to Argentina and who’ll stay home
The Springboks will unleash a number of returning Springbok stars in their one-off Test against Argentina in Buenos Aires next week Saturday, while also leaving some experienced players at home to begin preparing for Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry (RGR) series against the All Blacks. Speaking during a virtual media session on Tuesday afternoon, Bok coach Rassie Erasmus revealed that Ox Nche and Franco Mostert, who are in the current Bok 44-man group, are unavailable for the trip to South America next week. He also said that players such as Malcolm Marx and Pieter-Steph du Toit would likely get a break, while captain Siya Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Lood de Jager among others, would be in the match 23 to take on Los Pumas. “Other than our long term injuries, like Kwagga (Smith) and RG (Snyman), only Ox and Franco Mostert are not available for next week’s game,” said Erasmus. “Apart from that, everybody, Ethan (Hooker), Canan (Moodie), Sacha, Eben, Lood, Morne (van den Berg), more or less everybody else is ready. “I know a lot of people are talking about Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry now, but our focus is on next week’s game and how we have to beat Argentina. So let’s get past that hurdle before focusing on what comes next.” Perfect timing After it was announced last year that the Rugby Championship would not be played in 2026, with the RGR series against the All Blacks taking its place, the Boks looked to add extra Tests to the calendar, which included one-off matches against Argentina and Australia. The match against the Pumas thus comes at the perfect time to get some players up to speed and match fit ahead of the All Blacks series. “We always knew we were going to play this game, but as it worked out, it’s a great opportunity to give some of the returning players a run,” explained Erasmus. “Siya could have returned a week earlier (against Wales), but we wanted to make sure that he is fully fit, because a hamstring is a difficult thing. Same with Eben’s concussion, Lood’s injury and Sacha’s return. Sacha came nicely through his first training (session) with us. “The game is a really good time for us and it’s a good quality team. It would be good to see who will be ready to play New Zealand in two weeks’ time after that match.” The Boks will name the 26 players from their current 44-man group to tour Argentina later this week.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’s daughter Suri drops his surname
After fourteen years’ estrangement from her father, Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, Suri is legally dropping his surname. The 20-year-old is opting to use her mother Katie Holmes’s middle name as her surname, making her legal name Suri Noelle. Noelle is a student at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she reportedly registered to vote as Suri Noelle in 2024, as reported by Daily Mail. Holmes and Cruise (64) married in a star-studded Italian wedding in November 2006. She surprised Cruise with a divorce in 2012 when Suri was six-years-old, a divorce that was finalised in record time. She relocated to New York with Suri, making a clean break from the actor. Details of the divorce were never publicised. 47-year-old Holmes later dated Cruise’s friend, Jamie Foxx. They have since broken up, with Holmes now reported to be dating visual artist Jason Bard Yarmosky (38). Suri is not the only Hollywood offspring to distance themself from their father by dropping his surname. Brad Pitt’s children with ex-wife Angelina Jolie have been individually doing so as each becomes of age.

Bad news for anyone in KwaZulu-Natal wanting a US visa
South Africans in KwaZulu-Natal will soon have to travel to either Johannesburg or Cape Town to apply for a US visa after the United States announced it will end routine visa services at its Durban Consulate. The change takes effect on Saturday, 1 August and forms part of the US Department of State’s broader plan to consolidate visa processing across Africa into regional hubs. According to the Department of State, the move is intended to strengthen US national security by ensuring more consistent screening, vetting and adjudication standards for visa applicants. Durban among dozens of affected cities In an announcement, the Department of State confirmed that Durban, KwaZulu-Natal is one of several African cities where routine visa services will be discontinued. Other cities affected are Antananarivo (Madagascar), Abuja (Nigeria), Asmara (Eritrea), Bamako (Mali), Banjul (Gambia), Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), Bujumbura (Burundi), Conakry (Guinea), Cotonou (Benin), Freetown (Sierra Leone), Gaborone (Botswana), Harare (Zimbabwe), Juba (South Sudan), Libreville (Gabon), Lilongwe (Malawi), Lusaka (Zambia), Maputo (Mozambique), Maseru (Lesotho), Mbabane (Eswatini), N’Djamena (Chad), Niamey (Niger), Nouakchott (Mauritania), Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), and Windhoek (Namibia). Applicants who would previously have used these locations will instead be directed to designated regional visa processing centres. Where South Africans can apply From 1 August, routine US visa services for South African citizens and residents will only be available at the US diplomatic missions in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Across Africa, routine visa processing will continue at the US embassies and consulates in Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Accra (Ghana), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Dakar (Senegal), Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Djibouti, Kampala (Uganda), Kigali (Rwanda), Kinshasa (DRC), Lagos (Nigeria), Lomé (Togo), Luanda (Angola), Malabo (Equatorial Guinea), Monrovia (Liberia), Nairobi (Kenya), Port Louis (Mauritius), Praia (Cape Verde) and Yaoundé (Cameroon). The Department of State said consolidating visa operations into regional hubs will improve consistency in the application process while enhancing security standards across the continent. The change means applicants in Durban and surrounding areas should factor in additional travel time and costs when planning future US visa applications.
