Report: Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says NO to SAFA
According to iDiski Times journalist Sinethemba Makonco, Broos is leaving Bafana Bafana. He has rejected the proposal to extend. His departure is expected to be officially announced on Friday. HUGO BROOS DECLINES SAFA OFFER TO CONTINUE WITH BAFANA BAFANA Makonco reported: “Hugo Broos has declined an offer to continue as South Africa coach and his departure is expected to be formally announced on Friday.” Also read: Banyana Banyana begin WAFCON with shock defeat Broos took charge of South Africa in May 2021. He transformed the national team into one of the strongest sides on the continent. The 74-year-old guided South Africa to a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. He also led Bafana Bafana back to the FIFA World Cup, where they reached the knockout stages for the first time. Broos also earned praise for placing his faith in young players. Several rising stars made their international breakthroughs under his leadership. Reports suggest SAFA wanted him to remain in charge until the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. However, Broos reportedly felt the offer came too late. SAFA PREPARES FOR NEW ERA Broos has already indicated that he is ready to retire from full-time coaching. He has previously said he does not want to “die on the bench” after nearly 40 years in management. The Belgian wants to spend more time with his family. However, he has left the door open to remain involved in South African football in an advisory or scouting role. SAFA has called a press conference for Friday, 31 July, at 12:00 at SAFA House. The briefing is expected to confirm Broos’ departure following the expiry of his five-year contract. It is also expected to outline the association’s plans to appoint a new head coach ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

FIFA Crisis: UEFA say NO to proposal
The unanimous decision follows a proposal from FIFA president Gianni Infantino to allow private investors to buy a minority stake in a new commercial entity linked to the World Cup and other major tournaments. UEFA REJECTS FIFA PROPOSAL According to UEFA, no European national team will take part in any FIFA competition while the proposal remains on the table. FIFA wants to create a new commercial company called FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE). The entity would manage major tournaments, including the men’s and women’s World Cups and the expanded Club World Cup. The governing body plans to sell up to a 20 percent stake to private investors. The move could raise around $4.2 billion. Reports claim Thrive Eternal, a United States private equity firm founded by Joshua Kushner, was expected to lead the investment group. To win support, FIFA reportedly offered each of its 211 member associations a payment of up to $40 million if the proposal is approved. FIFA FACES GROWING PRESSURE UEFA rejected the proposal and criticised the process. Europe’s governing body described the plan as “irresponsible and indefensible.” It believes outside investment could damage the integrity of the sport. UEFA argues that commercial interests should never influence decisions around the World Cup. Several European nations have backed the stance. The Football Association in England said it stands “shoulder to shoulder” with UEFA. The reported boycott would deal a major blow to FIFA. A World Cup without countries such as England, Spain, France and Germany would significantly reduce the tournament’s commercial value. Opposition is also growing outside Europe. Both the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and CONCACAF have reportedly questioned FIFA’s handling of the proposal. UEFA says the boycott will remain in place until FIFA withdraws the plans and guarantees that the World Cup’s ownership will not be opened to private investors.
