Ouaddou hails ‘future of Pirates’ Mbuthuma
Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou hailed the display of striker Yanela Mbuthuma following the MTN8 semifinal win over Sekhukhune United. The striker, who has been the target of the Pirates boo boys in recent weeks, bagged two assists in the 3-0 win over Sekhukhune United in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday.“Look me, it doesn’t make me happy now, this boy, we trust him,” Ouaddou told SuperSport TV. “Sometimes in football you are in a difficult period. Like I said we have to give him confidence, trust him the performance will come. And today he played a good game and we have to continue to help him.“I’m sure he is the future of Pirates, and we cannot kill a boy like that. It’s what makes it so great when you feel that you’re being pushed by your own fans, they give you energy, power so all the time what I said, sometimes you have to be patient with the players and when they feel this love, support you’ll see what they can give you. “So, I think it can be really a lesson if we can have the support from our fans, I hope it will bring him something,” added Ouaddou.Following the MTN8 victory over Sekhukhune, Pirates will now change their focus to Tuesday’s Betway Premiership clash against Kruger United at the Mbombela Stadium.

Chery’s shortlisted names for KP31 bakkie South Africans can vote on are…
In a move similar to Australia’s, Chery has shortlisted the names South Africans can vote on as part of a competition to reveal the denominator of the KP31 bakkie. Suggestion box overflowed Announced earlier this month, the brand confirmed at the Kyalami Festival of Motoring on Thursday (27 August) that more than 20 000 recommendations had been received upon the opening of the competition more than a week ago. The covered badges on the tailgate of the depicted KP31 will soon have a script chosen by South Africans for South Africa. Picture: Charl Bosch While it was supposed to announce the name at the Kyalami showpiece, a final decision couldn’t be made. As such, voting has been extending till midnight on Monday on Chery South Africa’s website. Selected at random, the winner will get R100 000 towards the purchase of any new Chery vehicle, as well as the possibly of travelling with the brand to its hometown of Wuhu in China in October. Final choices Whereas the winning name in Australia turned out to be Stockman, in South Africa, the final options are more traditional as per Chery insisting on a local term being selected. As such, the six finalists South Africans can vote on are: Bakkie; Brahman; Chief; Grootman; Nduna; Orca. “We could have introduced this bakkie with a name decided elsewhere, but we wanted to give South Africans a meaningful role in its story,” Chery South Africa National Marketing Manager, Verene Petersen, said in a statement. “South Africans are inventive, expressive and rarely short of an opinion, particularly when it comes to their cars. The winning entry will go beyond the competition itself. It will become part of Chery’s journey in this country.” Known so far As with the Stockman, the KP31 will use a plug-in hybrid 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine outputting 350kW/800Nm. According to carsales.com.au, the Stockman has the following dimensions: Length: 5 450mm; Wheelbase: 3 250mm; Width: 2 010mm; Height: 1 890mm Depiction of what the KP31’s interior will look like. Picture: paultan.org The Australian publication further reports the Stockman as having a tow rating of 3 500kg, an all-electric range of 100km and a payload of 1 000kg. Riding on a new ladder-frame platform, the Stockman, and for that matter the eventual South African-spec KP31, will have a low range transfer case and up to 247mm of ground clearance. Known as the P3X in China, where it sold under the Rely brand similar to the R08 – previously called Himla – exact details about the KP31 haven’t so far been confirmed. No rush for local production However, what is known as that the newcomer could be produced at Chery’s Rosslyn plant outside Pretoria, despite Chery Executive Vice-President, Zhang Guibing, telling the media in July at the plant’s acquisitioning from Nissan that it is no hurry to make it a core model. “We will start to introduce different pick-ups in South Africa from next year and definitely consider producing the most popular model here,” he said. “We can’t build all of them here. But when one model is big enough in terms of numbers, it will make local manufacturing more economical.” Initially, the facility will first produce the Tiggo Cross and sister brand’s Jaecoo’s J5 and Jetour T-Series from the second half of 2027.

Updated rankings after Springboks, Wallabies win
The Springboks have jumped back to the top of the World Rugby rankings after claiming a hard-fought victory over the all Blacks in Cape Town on Saturday. Although the home team were ultimately outscored four tries to three, a flawless kicking performance from Cheslin Kolbe – who slotted four penalty goals to add to three conversions of tries by Jesse Kriel, Damian de Allende and Siya Kolisi – clinched a deserved victory. Meanwhile, in another Test match between Rugby Championship teams Australia and Argentina on Saturday, the Wallabies held off a fierce comeback to secure a 27–21 victory over Los Pumas. That result has seen Australia leapfrog Argentina into seventh place in the rankings. A loss here and there doesn’t make you a losing team immediately, but it’s when you go on a losing run that the pressure comes on. But of course, I felt the pressure, I think the players will tell you I felt the pressure. I was nervous. “We must make sure we’re not comfortable after this win and think we’re all good again because there were things we didn’t do well.” The third Test takes place at the FNB Stadium at Nasrec in Johannesburg on Saturday (kick off at 17:10), live on SuperSport.

‘Completely unacceptable’: Ramaphosa on Dada Morero’s utterances
President Cyril Ramaphosa has described Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero’s utterances during a service delivery engagement with residents in Tshepisong, Soweto, as “completely unacceptable”. Morero told a resident who accused him of being a criminal that he was “talking sh#t”. RAMAPHOSA COMMENTS ON DADA MORERO’S UTTERANCES During a City Power Tshepisong Electricity Imbizo in Soweto earlier this week, Morero had a heated verbal exchange with a resident. Morero reprimanded the resident and said that if the resident was being disrespectful, he too had the capacity to be disrespectful. Following criticism from residents and social media users, Morero apologised for his remarks. “During the meeting, emotions ran high between me and one of the participants. I would like to profusely and unconditionally apologise for my utterances which were made. It should not have been done in that fashion, and I do take full responsibility,” the mayor said. WATCH:"Don't call me a criminal," Dada Morero reprimanding a member of the public. pic.twitter.com/W31HMAwp6n— Pule Letshwiti-Jones (@pule_jones) August 27, 2026 Speaking on the sidelines of a campaign trail in Soweto, Ramaphosa said what Dada Morero said was totally unacceptable, however, he has since apologised. “He’s gone public and apologised and we as the ANC have taken him up on that. I do hope that our people will also be able to accept the apology that he has given,” he said. The ANC leader said campaigning in Soweto was not doing damage control, and the people in the area did not even raise the issue. “Not a single pone raised the issue. They’ve only spoken in a way that they want councillors to work well for us. They want their mayor to execute the manifesto of the ANC. That is about the sum total of what they said about the incident. “So, we move ahead and in any campaign there will always be mishaps and missteps and we are people and we’ll always make mistakes. The important thing is whether we humble ourselves enough to be able to say we apologise this does not represent who we are because what he said does not represent in any way what the ANC is and what the ANC stands for,” he said.
