A planned purchase of French rugby club Béziers never happened after players paid money towards a promised €100 million loan. The agent and former Springbok involved say they too were victims of the failed deal.

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba believes the Brazilians have what it takes to compete with some of the biggest clubs in world football after their impressive FIFA Intercontinental Cup victory over Al-Ahli Saudi. Sundowns close to PSG clash Masandawana claimed a 2-1 win over the Saudi Pro League side at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, putting themselves one match away from a potential showdown with European champions Paris Saint-Germain. Sundowns will face the winner of the clash between Mexican side Toluca and the eventual 2026 Copa Libertadores champions in the next round. Modiba believes Sundowns can compete with anyone after yet another memorable win on one of the biggest stages of club football. “We always tell ourselves that we can compete against anyone. Our coach always says that we must respect the game, but as soon as we put on the Sundowns badge, we’re different players ” the left back said. “And we must have the confidence to be able to compete against anyone irrespective of the name, club or where they come from. For us, it’s just to make sure we do our best because we know ourselves that on any day and a good pitch, we can hurt anyone.” The victory over Ahli also saw Sundowns claim the FIFA African-Asian Pacific Cup, adding another piece of silverware to the club’s collection. The highly resourced Saudi side were unable to overcome an inspired Sundowns team, who dominated large periods of the match in front of their home supporters in Tshwane. ‘Another major trophy for the team’ Modiba was delighted with the result and the opportunity to etch his name and that of his teammates into the club’s history. “Yes, this is another major trophy for the team and the club for us to make history as the first footballers to win this cup,” he added. “For us to put ourselves in the history books and for us to do well in this game and not just participate. We won against a really good side. “They have experienced players and you could see that they know what to do with the ball. They know when to defend and when to attack, but I’m just happy we managed to win.” With Sundowns continuing their run in the competition, Modiba and his teammates will now turn their attention to the next challenge, with a meeting against PSG being the ultimate goal.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has rescued a man who was trapped in a truck on a low-lying bridge across the Gamtoos River near a farm road. According to Louwrens Bezuidenhout, NSRI St Francis Bay deputy station commander, the incident occurred at 7.33pm on Friday, when the team received a call from a farmer requesting assistance after reporting a truck that was trapped between Patensie and Hankey in the Eastern Cape. Heavy rainfall The alarm was raised when the truck failed to arrive on schedule to collect a load of citrus fruit, prompting the farmer to search for it. He eventually found the truck trapped on the low-lying bridge, surrounded by river water. The bridge was swamped by recent heavy rainfall. Bezuidenhout noted that the bridge has been repeatedly swamped by heavy rainfall since May, making the roadway slippery. Trapped in cab The 30-year-old truck driver, a resident of Gqeberha, was trapped in the cab. According to the NSRI, he could not escape because fast-flowing, swollen river water was rushing around the truck at cab height. NSRI rescue swimmers established a technicalrope-and-pulley system to reach the truck and conducted a swift-water rescue operation through the rising, fast-flowing water. Rescue teams NSRI Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was alerted, and its Jeffereys Bay duty crew was activated to assist, along with members from the South African Police Service(Saps) and Smart Security. Rescue swimmers, small rescue craft and vehicles were dispatched. On arrival, rescuers found a truck that had been travelling to a local farm to collect citrus fruit trapped while crossing the Gamtoos River. Three-hour-long rescue mission After a three-hour swift-water rescue operation, rescuers secured the truck driver with a life jacket, anchor ropes and a pulley system. The rescue mission concluded at around 1am after EMS paramedics assessed the truck driver, who was then transported to hospital for further medical evaluation. Investigations According to the NSRI, police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Bezuidenhout said a heavy vehicle recovery team was looking into ways to recover the truck once the river subsides.

The proof of address must include the applicant’s name and show a Cape Town address, as the Green Card is limited to Cape Town residents. The Tokai office is cash-free; therefore, applicants must pay by card. Is the R212 Fee Worthwhile? Cardholders get entry for R17.67, rather than the typical R44. Cape Point and Boulders are the exception. South African visitors pay R110 to enter Cape Point. At Boulders, they pay R50. In these instances, the typical 60% savings jump to 84%. Pensioners can also share the benefits with friends and family. Cardholders can use the card to get entry for up to 5 additional visitors. The visitors don’t have to be Cape Town residents, but they must have a South African ID to benefit from the entry. This allows pensioners to enjoy the parks with local friends and family.
