Sundowns’ Cardoso pleased with chartered flight to Angola
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has expressed his gratitude to the club for securing a chartered plane for their trip to Angola ahead of Sunday’s CAF Champions League clash against Wiliete. The Brazilians will face the Angolan side in the first leg of the second preliminary round, the winner of the two-legged tie will advance to the group stages of Africa’s prestigious club competition. Sundowns received a bye in the first preliminary round, while Wiliete booked their place in the next round after thrashing Seychelles outfit Foresters FC 5-0 on aggregate. The reigning African champions will be favourites to progress against a Wiliete side that finished second behind Petro de Luanda in the Girabola last season. Cardoso thankful to Sundowns Although the flight from South Africa to Angola takes just under four hours, Cardoso believes securing a chartered plane is crucial to ensuring the team travels without unnecessary complications. “I’m very thankful to my club that understood that we needed to have a chartered plane to travel to Angola. It’s clear to explain because of the flights in Angola. ” he said. “We made our people travel there to see several matches and some of their flights were delayed. We couldn’t risk not travelling on getting a chartered plane because it’s tricky to fly in Angola. “And we needed to control that. The club made that effort to get us a chartered plane, and it allows us to come back immediately after the match to South Africa.” Cardoso was speaking after Sundowns continued their impressive run of form with a commanding 4-1 victory over Richards Bay in the Betway Premiership at Princess Magogo Stadium on Tuesday. Having faced Petro de Luanda in previous campaigns, Sundowns will now turn their attention to unfamiliar opposition in Wiliete. The Benguela-based outfit will pose a different challenge, with Angola international Mabululu among their attacking threats. ‘It’s very difficult’ Cardoso revealed that preparations for the encounter were already underway before thei triumph over Pirates in the MTN8 final last Saturday. “Obviously, for us coaches, it’s very difficult to prepare a match on that level but we will again demand from ourselves a lot of effort,” the Portuguese coach added. “I can confess that after meeting earlier today, I was already in my room studying documents that were in my hands. We also had people that worked on them at the same we were preparing for Pirates.” Sundowns will be determined to secure a positive result in Angola before hosting Wiliete for the return leg in South Africa on October 23.

Honda CR-V realigned with hybrid tech and at a reduced price
Extensively criticised for its price tag upon its market launch two years ago, Honda has restructured the CR-V line-up with a single variant powered, for the first time in South Africa, by a hybrid powertrain. Dual-motor hybrid Replacing the long-serving 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, the CR-V now makes use of a self-charging hybrid consisting of a normally aspirated 2.0-litre engine and a one kilowatt-hour battery pack powering two electric motors. Paired to an electronic CVT, the petrol unit develops 106kW/189Nm on its own, while the electric hardware develops 135kW/335Nm. No combined output figure has been revealed. Hybrid powertrain means the CR-V has all-wheel drive from the start. Picture: Honda All-wheel drive from the start as a result of the dual-electric motors, the CR-V is said to consume unleaded at a rate of 5.4 L/100 km and, as before, offer 208 mm of ground clearance. In total, three modes for the hybrid can be selected from: the default Hybrid, EV and Engine Drive, which sees the combustion engine taking preference over the electrical setup for maximum power. The actual drive mode selector, again, comes with three settings: Eco, Normal, and Sport. No more seating for seven Dimensionally unchanged from the model that launched globally four years ago, the sixth generation CR-V’s dimensions are as follows: Length: 4 706 mm; Wheelbase: 2 700 mm; Height: 1 691 mm; Width: 1 886 mm On the practicality side, the inclusion of the electric hardware has seen the seven-seat layout being dropped for a traditional five-seat. The result is more boot space up from between 150 to 1 488-litres, to 581 and 1 636-litres. Towing capacity, however, drops to 750 kg, again as a result of the hybrid powertrain. RS touches On the model front, the CR-V now comes in a single variant as mentioned, with the previous Executive and Exclusive making way for the sporty RS. A nomenclature last used on the Civic, the RS’s unique styling inclusions comprise model-specific bumpers and door sills finished in gloss black, dual exhaust outlets, gloss black 19-inch alloy wheels and a black grille with a red RS badge. Completing the exterior is a gloss black imitation rear diffuser, a gloss black bootlid spoiler, black mirror caps and a RS badge on the tailgate. Spec sheet Inside, the RS’ specification sheet is mirrored on the outgoing Exclusive, yet with subtle RS inclusions, namely embroidered badges on the front seatbacks with added red stitch work. The rest of the interior is, however, identical and on the spec sheet, includes the following: auto on/off LED headlights; rain sense wipers; folding and tilting electric mirrors; LED fog lamps; imitation leather upholstery; dual-zone climate control with rear vents; heated and electric front seats; keyless entry; push-button start; front and rear armrests; 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster; eight-speaker sound system; wireless smartphone charging pad; nine-inch infotainment display; wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; type-A and type-C USB ports; hands-free electric tailgate; remote engine start; white ambient lighting; dual-pane panoramic sunroof; Included as part of Honda’s Sensing safety and driver assistance system is: front and rear parking sensors; tyre pressure monitor; eight airbags; surround-view camera; Auto High Beam Assist; LaneWatch side-view camera; Adaptive Cruise Control; Collision Mitigation Braking; Forward Collision Warning; Driver Attention Alert; Road Departure Mitigation; Lane Departure Warning; Rear Seat Alert; Hill Descent Control; Vehicle Stability Assist; Trailer Sway Control Lane Keep Assist; Head-Up Display Hill Start Assist Colours In total, five colours can be selected form: Platinum White Pearl; Blazing Red Pearl; Meteoroid Grey Metallic; Lunar Silver Metallic; Canyon River Blue Metallic Price Now available, priced at a credit of R10 000 over the Executive and R91 400 less than the Exclusive, the CR-V RS e:HEV AWD’s price tag further includes a five-year/200 000 km warranty, a five-year/90 000 km service plan and an eight-year/200 000 km battery warranty.

Transfer report: Under 20 star captain to Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns are expected to acquire the services of Lazola Maku, fresh from lifting the COSAFA Under 20 championship with South Africa. The 19-year-old from Cape Town has been a free agent since parting ways with Siwelele FC last season. LAZOLA MAKU TO MAMELODI SUNDOWNS While Maku enjoyed a successful trial in Austria in September, it appears Ka Bo Yellow are set to sign the dumitive mifielder. “Following an apparently successful trial in Austria, South Africa U20 captain Lazola Maku is closing in on a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, with the newly crowned MTN8 champions expected to sign the midfielder on a free transfer,” SABC Sports’ Mazola Molefe reported. Biltong, braais and ‘now now’: 8 things South Africans living abroad miss most
South Africans living abroad have a reputation for being a little homesick. It turns out the data backs that up. According to a 2026 study, South Africans are among the most homesick people in the world. So what exactly are they missing? We looked at the latest research to find out. More than 1 million South Africans live overseas, according to estimates from the United Nations and Statistics South Africa. Australia, UK and the US are home to more than half of them. And many of them still feel the pull of home. A 2026 study by financial services company Remitly ranked South Africa as the second most homesick nation in the world, with 96.1% of South Africans abroad saying they feel homesick. Only the Philippines ranked higher. Here’s what they miss the most. 1. FAMILY This one tops every list. According to the study, 80% of South Africans abroad miss their family. The TEFL Academy found something similar, with more than 77% of South Africans who had lived abroad saying they missed time with family and lifelong friends. 2. FRIENDS Close behind family are the friends who knew you before you left. Remitly found that 62% of South Africans abroad miss their friends. 3. FOOD AND DRINK You can take a South African out of Mzansi, but you can’t take Mzansi out of their stomach. More than half of South Africans abroad (54%) miss food and drink from home, according to Remitly. That includes the obvious favourites, like biltong, boerewors and a proper braai. 4. LOCAL BRANDS Some cravings are very specific. The University of Cape Town’s Liberty Institute of Strategic Marketing surveyed more than 1,500 South Africans living in 73 countries for its South African Diaspora Report 2026. The brands they missed most included Woolworths, Spur and Nik Naks. 5. THE HUMOUR AND WARMTH South Africans have a way of making strangers feel like friends. According to The TEFL Academy’s research, 66.9% of South Africans who had lived abroad said they missed South Africa’s humour, warmth and social culture. 6. THE OUTDOOR LIFESTYLE AND WEATHER Long sunny days. Braais under the stars. Beach weekends. The TEFL Academy found that more than 55% missed South Africa’s outdoor lifestyle. Remitly’s study found that 34% missed the climate. 7. HEARING THEIR OWN LANGUAGES There’s nothing like hearing “eish“, “lekker” or “now now” in the wild. According to Remitly, around 36% of South Africans abroad miss hearing their native language regularly. 8. KNOWING HOW THINGS WORK This one surprises people. Moving abroad means relearning everything, from how to open a bank account to how the local healthcare system works. According to Remitly, 30% of South Africans abroad miss understanding how everyday systems work at home. And 27% simply miss sleeping in their own bed. WILL SOUTH AFRICANS LIVING ABROAD COME HOME? Missing home doesn’t always mean moving back. The University of Cape Town’s survey found that only 17% of South Africans abroad plan to return to South Africa. I grew up in different countries, so I know that feeling well. You can love where you live and still miss the small things: the slang, the food, the way people talk to strangers. To every South African reading this from abroad: Mzansi misses you too. WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT SOUTH AFRICA? Let us know in the comments below…
