March and March leader says government is similar to apartheid regime
March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has accused South Africa’s government of having similarities to the apartheid regime. In a social media post on Friday, Ngobese-Zuma claimed the government is using the legal system against people it considers a threat. Reports of Ngobese-Zuma’s imminent arrest It comes after reports that Ngobese-Zuma and her husband face arrest. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and police in KwaZulu-Natal, however, this week said no arrest warrant had been issued for either of them. She has become a prominent figure in South Africa since her organisation led calls for tighter immigration controls. Apartheid comparisons “I was born during apartheid but I did not experience it long enough to fully grasp the cruelty of it, but today, on this 16th day of October 2026, I, Jacinta Zinhle Zuma, understand fully now why apartheid had to be law, it had to be legislated so that anyone who dares fight the state or the system is seen as breaking the law and the very people who are custodians of the law use it against people they deem a threat…” she said. Ngobese-Zuma referenced unfulfilled promises that were made by the government after apartheid and the way some South Africans are treated when they speak out. “The government of South Africa is against people raising their dissatisfaction at them bringing in even more people to burden them further in their communities and their country, compromising their safety and making their socio-economic issues even worse… the same people that fought a government under the disguise of ‘freeing’ them is now a replica of the former system…” She also accused the government of hypocrisy in the way it deals with illegal immigration. “They claim to not have the means and resources to solve the problem which the people are complaining about, which is illegal immigration and foreigners committing crimes in the country, but when they want to silence the citizens, terrorise them and instil fear in them, stop them from protesting, they will use any means necessary and hide behind ‘law enforcement’,” she said. Protests after ConCourt ruling Ngobese-Zuma’s rant comes after tensions were heightened following a Constitutional Court ruling that declared some sections of the Refugees Act of 1998 invalid. The ConCourt ruled that immigration status should not be a consideration when Home Affairs processes an asylum application. It led to anti-illegal immigration demonstrations in Durban, Soweto and the Johannesburg CBD. Police arrested several March and March supporters during the protests.

Haaland stars in Man City win, Liverpool beat Brentford
Erling Haaland starred with a double as Premier League leaders Manchester City beat Ipswich 3-2, while Liverpool came from behind to seal a 2-1 win at Brentford on Saturday. City are in turmoil off the pitch after being found guilty of more than 100 breaches of Premier League financial rules. But on the grass, they have made a perfect start, with seven successive league victories marking their best opening to a Premier League season. City, who are appealing against the guilty verdict after branding it a “Premier League conspiracy”, sit six points clear of champions Arsenal. Second-placed Arsenal can close the gap with a win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday. With City potentially facing a massive points deduction or even expulsion from the top flight if their appeal fails, it remains to be seen whether their results will even matter by the end of the season. But for now, Enzo Maresca’s side are in fine form after bouncing back from their midweek loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. There was a defiant mood at the Etihad Stadium, where City fans booed the Premier League anthem before kick-off, while thousands waved inflatable bananas to underline their commitment to the club regardless of their current plight. The toy bananas were taken to the matches by City supporters to lighten the mood when the team was struggling during the late 1980s. Chanting “you’re down with the City” to their Ipswich counterparts, City’s fans were in self-deprecating mood. Phil Foden put Maresca’s men ahead in the 19th minute with a sharp turn and finish after Jeremy Doku’s incisive run prised open the Ipswich defence. Foden’s first goal this season was followed by an Ipswich equaliser in the 21st minute when Daizen Maeda evaded Marc Guehi to fire home. Haaland restored City’s lead in the 34th minute with a pin-point header from Mateo Kovacic’s cross. Haaland killed off Ipswich in the 69th minute, sprinting onto Iliman Ndiaye’s pass and steering his shot past Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton. It was the Norway striker’s 12th goal in his last eight City appearances. Zian Flemming’s 90th-minute penalty, awarded for a foul by Guehi, set up a tense finale but City held on. – Liverpool revival – In west London, Liverpool were stunned when Brentford defender Keane Lewis-Potter looped a header past Alisson Becker from Igor Thiago’s cross in the 44th minute. But the Bees were reduced to 10 men in first half stoppage-time after Yehor Yarmolyuk’s head made contact with Jeremy Jacquet’s face while they waited for a corner. Liverpool lost Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong to injuries, but still made their numerical advantage count in the 62nd minute. Victor Munoz cut inside and slotted a composed equaliser past Brentford’s former Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher. Alexander Isak blasted Liverpool’s winner in the 70th minute after Barcola teed up the Sweden striker for his fifth goal this term. Brentford finished with nine men following Vitaly Janelt’s second booking in stoppage-time. Beaten by City in their previous league game, Liverpool are up to fifth place after inflicting Brentford’s first league defeat of the season. Pedro Neto’s double condemned Everton to a first defeat of the season as fourth-placed Chelsea won 2-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium despite the loss of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to a head injury. Neto opened the scoring inside the first minute of the second half and secured the points during stoppage-time. The Argentine international was involved in a sickening head clash with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and was taken to hospital. Fulham won for the first time in the league this season as Alex Iwobi’s 33rd-minute goal clinched a 1-0 victory against Hull at Craven Cottage. Alvaro Arbeloa’s side moved out of the relegation zone despite having Ryan Sessegnon sent off for a crude lunge on Robinio Vaz in the final minutes. Newcastle host Aston Villa in Saturday’s late game.

Stormers batter Bristol Bears in seven-try Champions Cup rout
The Stormers turned on the style to open their European Investec Champions Cup campaign with a commanding 49-12 victory over the Bristol Bears in Cape Town on Saturday.  Like all fixtures across the rugby community today, the pre-game build-up was an emotionally charged affair following the sudden and untimely passing of Lions lock Hyron Andrews. As expected, the Stormers and Bears, along with the relatively good crowd, held a moment of silence for the 31-year-old before the action kicked off.  And when it did, it was the visitors who enjoyed the better start across the opening five minutes or so, but once the Stormers overcame the early onslaught and settled into a rhythm of their own, there was nothing Bristol could do to stem the tidal wave.  The three standout features from today’s encounter were the Stormers’ dominant scrum, their clinical execution when in the red zone and Sacha Feinberg-Mngozulu’s near-perfect place-kicking display (seven from eight), the last which have been inconsistent in the early stages of the URC. FIRST HALF RECAP: STORMERS KEEP BEARS AT BAY AND THEN FIRE Bristol made a fast start, depriving the Stormers of the ball and instead forcing them into defence mode. Unfortunately for English Premiership side, the failure to turn that early dominance into points cost them dearly later in the game.  Because the Stormers’ fetchers were limited at the breakdown up to that point, it took a special solo turnover effort by Seabelo Senatla to hand them possession of the ball. They set an attacking lineout and from there, Senatla was put into a gap, turned on the afterburners and dotted down in the corner for the opening touchdown.   Moments later, the Stormers thought they were in again, after a quickly taken throw-in saw Cobus Reinach scuttle away untouched, but they  were brought back for a knock-on as Leolin Zas lost control of the ball before Reinach pounced. That, however, was only a momentary reprieve for the visitors, as the Stormers secured turnover possession against the scrum feed and set a lineout before their driving maul was brought down, earning them yet another penalty. From the resultant scrum, they spread the ball to Senatla, who stepped three would-be defenders before freeing up Zas for the Stormers’ second.  Flank Joe Owen pulled a try back for the visitors, but the Stormers would cross the whitewash again with Feinberg-Mngomezulu slotting the conversion to maintain his perfect record off the kicking tee. The Stormers did hit a bump in the road when hooker JJ Kotze was given a straight red card for a for a head-high tackle. But luckily for the hosts, being a man down didn’t cost as the defence held firm until the half-time break.  SECOND HALF RECAP: STORMERS CLOSE OUT WELL The second half had the same pattern as the first; Bristol started brightly, only this time they actually managed to score, through replacement hooker Sol Moody.  Bristol continued asking tough questions of the Stormers defence, but the hosts stood their ground from there. Reinach read play beautifully to snatch a long pass out of the air and run away to score against the run of play, but his try was disallowed for a high tackle. While it would have been a wonderful feat and just reward for the scrumhalf himself, it made little to no difference in the wider scheme of things as Jonny Roche would eventually score the sought-after fourth try to guarantee a bonus-point win for the Stormers. There was a late blitzkrieg of tries by Warrick Gelant, Andre-Hugo Venter and Zas to capped off a resounding all-round performance.

These retirement-friendly South African cruises are affordable
When you reach retirement age, it makes sense to enjoy the golden years. After decades in the workforce, it’s time to relax and explore. But sometimes the budget can get in the way. Thankfully, cruises offer an affordable way to travel. Affordable Cruises Offer All-Inclusive Holidays With a cruise, you get accommodation, excursions, and food for one price. For these reasons, cruises have become especially popular among retirees. In South Africa, the most affordable cruises depart from Durban’s Nelson Mandela port. From here, you can spend as little as R5 458 for an all-inclusive 4-night cruise to Mozambique. Other cruises from the Nelson Mandela port include a 2-night round trip out to sea starting at R5 534. Then there’s also a 3-night one-way trip to Cape Town starting at R5 889 per person. Cape Town also has affordable cruises, just far fewer than Durban. These are local cruises or sea trips. The most affordable cruise from Cape Town on MSC is a 3-night one-way cruise to Durban. The starting price is R6 401 per person. Travelling to international waters from Cape Town, the cheapest cruise is a round-trip to Walvis Bay, Namibia. The 5-night cruise includes 2 days in Walvis Bay and starts at R12 235 per person. For R8 068 from Durban, you can book a 4-night cruise to Mozambique that stops at two ports: Pomene and Portuguese Island. Well-heeled travellers can explore more. A one-way MSC Grand Voyages departs Durban on 1 April 2027 and journeys to Italy. The 26-day cruise includes stops in Reunion, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, Jordan, Egypt and Greece. However, this trip costs R37 441 per person. Cruising Affordably To get an affordable cruise, look for last-minute deals. You can save up to 30% by booking a cruise with one month’s notice. That’s especially true if you couldn’t get an early-bird special. Take the 4-night round-trip to Pomene, Mozambique. It costs R5 548 if you book for November. However, for a December booking, the costs jump to R7 668. To further reduce your cruise costs, don’t buy packages if it’s your first time cruising. Rather, book a short, cheap cruise to test the waters. Then, if you want to book future cruises, think about what you’ve learned from your first trip. There are some standard packages that can make financial sense. Drink packages, for example, can make sense if they include bottled water. You can also make the most out of your trip by analysing: The Itinerary: Where are you stopping, how long will you be there, and what can you do? Ask these questions before booking. The destination can be just as exciting as the journey. If it’s in a place you want to visit and the ship is docked for hours, you can venture farther than the port. Number of Occupants: In South Africa, the MSC cruise ships operating (Armonia and Sinfonia) have a similar occupancy limit. They range from 976 to 990 occupants. Ship size: How large is the ship? South Africa has access to two ships of roughly the same size. However, each is arranged differently. You might prefer one over the other.
