Ndlanya sends Chiefs warning over possible CAF exit
Kaizer Chiefs legend Pollen Ndlanya has warned that it will be a ‘serious setback’ for Amakhosi if they fail to qualify for the group stages of the Caf Confederation Cup. Chiefs have it all to do Fernando Da Cruz’ Chiefs have it all to do following a 1-0 defeat in Zambia to Red Arrows in the first leg of their final qualifier on Saturday. Chiefs will host Arrows in the 2nd leg at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Friday. “If Chiefs were to be knocked out of continental competition before reaching the group stages, it would be a serious setback,” Ndlanya told this week’s edition of iDiski Times. Ndlanya believes Chiefs’ squad could do with a shake up. Amakhosi drew three Betway Premiership matches on the spin before Saturday’s Confederation Cup loss, and the pressure is ramping up on Da Cruz. “They need to improve the quality of their squad and give their development players a chance,” added Ndlanya. “They should consider bringing several promising youngsters into the senior team and allowing them to compete for places … they need to build a team that can compete consistently.” Chiefs made it into the group stages of the Confederation Cup last season under Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, and were a little unlucky not to make the quarterfinals. ‘I sometimes wonder who is responsible for recruitment’ Failure to reach the group stages this time would certainly not reflect well on Da Cruz and his coaching staff. Ndlanya, meanwhile, believes that there is talent in the current Chiefs squad, but that recruitment has been handled badly by the club. “I am not saying the players they currently have are all bad,” he said. “There are good players in the squad, but recruitment is about identifying the right players for the team and the way it wants to play. That is why I sometimes wonder who is responsible for recruitment at Chiefs. They need to make sure the players they bring in are suitable for the club’s needs.”

WATCH: Rolene Strauss shares tips that helped her win Miss World 2014
Former Miss World Rolene Strauss recently shared the advice she received while preparing for the 2014 international beauty pageant. In a video posted on Instagram, Strauss recalled how her mentor, Werner Wessels, encouraged her to stand out among more than 140 contestants competing for the title. Wessels served as Miss South Africa’s creative director for years before stepping down in 2025. ‘Standing out’ Strauss said Wessels advised her to position herself at the centre of group photographs and volunteer to speak first during events. “When there’s a picture being taken, I want you straight in the middle, smack in the middle. When someone’s asking who wants to speak, your hand is up first. This is a competition, so act like it,” she recalled him saying. Strauss also recalled the opening ceremony and charity gala, where contestants appeared together in evening gowns for the first time. She said she was chatting to other contestants when she realised a queue had formed for a group photograph. Despite her mentor’s advice, she did not rush to the front. “I did not listen to Werner. I did not run to the front to be in front of the line in order to be in front when the picture has been taken,” she said. Strauss said the contestants were then lined up for the photograph, with the arrangement placing her in the middle. “This was one of the pictures that they actually took and said, yes, this is our winner,” she recalled. Rolene Strauss reflects on faith and humility Reflecting on the experience, Strauss said it reminded her of her Christian faith and the importance of humility. “This was just one of the many examples that I could see in my life where God’s upside-down kingdom is very real,” she said. She encouraged her followers to focus on their character rather than trying to control every outcome. “It’s not about what you do. It’s about who you are,” she said. Strauss won Miss South Africa in 2014 before going on to win the Miss World title later that year. She became the third South African to win the international pageant. Steve Komphela allegedly racially abused in Angola incident
Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Steve Komphela has allegedly been subjected to racial abuse by Wiliete SC head coach Beto Bianchi before reportedly becoming involved in a physical altercation. The alleged incident took place on Sunday after Sundowns played to a goalless draw against Wiliete in Angola in the CAF Champions League preliminary round. Some reports have claimed that Komphela punched Bianchi, who was reportedly taken to hospital. Neither club nor CAF, however, has officially confirmed the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident. Speaking on Metro FM, Andile Ncube claimed that Komphela was escorted out of the Tundavala National Stadium by police following an altercation involving members of the technical benches. “Coach Steve Komphela left the stadium with cops in Angola. Steve Komphela can speak Portuguese; he understands it. He is very good with languages; he’s got a good grasp of Portuguese,” Ncube said. “He was escorted out of the stadium because there was some form of altercation, from what I hear, with the bench. There were racial slurs, spitting. The coach spat on Coach Steve, and I know Coach Steve personally. I call him big brother,” he added. Ncube suggested that Komphela may have been pushed to the limit, leading to a reaction that was out of character for the Sundowns assistant coach. Steve Komphela gets ‘physical’ Meanwhile, Wiliete vice-president Vitorins Lunga Vicele addressed the alleged incident, indicating that the club intended to pursue the matter through the appropriate channels. “It is something that should not happen, especially when we are talking about two professional teams. We will therefore lodge complaints with the relevant CAF bodies and the Angolan justice system,” he told Angolan publication Angop. The incident remains unconfirmed by the clubs and CAF, with further details expected to emerge as the matter develops. Steve Komphela is surely going to be the talking point when the two teams clash again this weekend in the second leg. Do you think Komphela was in the wrong?
