Sundowns held to goalless draw by Wiliete SC in Angola
Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a goalless draw by Wiliete SC in the first leg of their second preliminary round tie in the CAF Champions League at the Estádio Nacional da Tundavala. Miguel Cardoso will be disappointed that his side failed to secure an away goal after a disjointed performance in Angola. The two teams will meet again at Loftus Versfeld next Friday for the return leg, with a place in the group stage at stake. Brayan León came agonisingly close to opening the scoring just five minutes into the match after beating the offside trap to latch on to a ball over the Wiliete defence from Nuno Santos. The Colombian striker rounded the goalkeeper, only for his effort to be cleared off the line. That early opportunity proved to be the standout moment of a largely uneventful first half, with neither side creating any clear-cut chances thereafter. Playing on what appeared to be an uneven surface in Lubango, Sundowns struggled to impose themselves on the game. Kick-off was delayed by 30 minutes, with Sundowns confirming on their X account that the delay was due to adverse weather conditions and the risk of lightning. Ricardo Goss was handed a rare start in goal in the absence of regular captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams. Aubrey Modiba also missed a second consecutive match through injury, with Fawaaz Basadien continuing at left-back. Long-term absentees Keanu Cupido and Khuliso Mudau remain sidelined, while Grant Kekana is yet to feature since the conclusion of the FIFA international break. Sundowns suffered another setback when influential midfielder Teboho Mokoena was stretchered off in the 40th minute. Bathusi Aubaas replaced him as Sundowns endured a frustrating opening 45 minutes. Tashreeq Matthews tested Wiliete goalkeeper Elber Delgado in the 66th minute, shooting straight at him after a promising move down the left. Mabululu forced a good save from Goss a minute later as the hosts looked to capitalise on the counter-attack. Former Orlando Pirates winger Gilberto, who now plays for Wiliete, blazed over the bar as the hosts threatened again on the break. Despite introducing Iqraam Rayners, Siyanda Ndlovu, Thabo Cele and Divine Lunga in the second half, the defending champions could not find a breakthrough, leaving the tie finely poised ahead of the return leg in Tshwane.

All grown up! Charlize steps out with two daughters [video]
Charlize Theron and her two daughters turned heads at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday, 17  October. The South-African born actress adopted Jackson (who now identifies as a girl) and August in 2012 and 2015, respectively. CHARLIZE THERON AND TWO DAUGHTERS TURN HEADS AT EVENT On Saturday, Charlize made an appearance at the Sixth Annual Academy Museum Gala in LA, where she received the Icon Award in celebration of her cinematic career. While the blonde Benoni-born star walked the red carpet alone, she shared a sweet moment with her daughters, Jackson, 14,  and August, 12. Charlize and her model-like kids shared a warm embrace in a video captured by People magazine. Both girls had their hair styled in long braids and wore black minidresses and strappy heels. While they aren’t biologically related, it’s clear the girls inherited their style and grace from their South African mom. View this post on Instagram A post shared by People Magazine (@people) WHY SHE CHOSE TO ADOPT Over the years, Charlize Theron has spoken openly and honestly about her unconventional path to parenthood. In an interview with Elle Magazine in 2018, the South African-born star revealed that she was intrigued with adoption from a young age.  She shared: “South Africa, orphanages were everywhere, and I wanted a brother or sister. I was always aware that there are so many children in this world who don’t have families. Adoption is a very personal thing – I know people whom I love dearly who don’t feel that they could raise another child as their own. I respect that.  “But for me -and I can’t be the only person out there- I never saw a difference in raising an adopted child versus my own biological child. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on something.  “This was always my first choice, even when I was in a relationship. I was very honest with my partners that I was open to having my own biological kids but that adoption had to be a part of my life. I felt that strongly about it”.
