Australia opt to bowl first in second Test as Proteas hand debut to Ackerman
Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first in the second Test against South Africa, starting in Gqeberha on Sunday. Australia are 1-0 up in the three-match series having won the first Test in Durban by 214 runs. South Africa have handed batter Marques Ackerman a debut. He will open the innings with Aiden Markram, with Ryan Rickelton, who has taken over the wicket-keeping duties from Kyle Verreynne, batting down the order. Middle-order batter Matthew Breetzke is back in the side after playing a Test in 2024 and 2025. The other change from the first Test is fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who returns after recovering from a hamstring niggle. The four South African squad players to miss out are Corbin Bosch, Keshav Maharaj, Senuran Muthusamy and Verreynne. The Australian team shows just one change from the Durban match, with Scott Boland coming in for spinner Nathan Lyon. Teams South Africa: Aiden Markram, Marques Ackerman, David Bedingham, Temba Bavuma, Matthew Breetzke, Ryan Rickelton, Wiaan Mulder, Marco Jansen, Simon Harmer, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje. Ramaphosa urges Muslim voters to help shape South Africa’s future
President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged South Africa’s Muslim community not to sit on the sidelines of democracy, warning that citizens who choose not to vote effectively hand decisions about the country’s future to others. “You need to be part of that process. Because if you are not part of that process, others will decide,” Ramaphosa said during a visit to Rylands on Saturday. The Muslim vote The president was addressing a discussion hosted by the International Peace College South Africa (IPSA) titled The Muslim Voter and the Ballot: Towards Developing an Ethical Framework for Informed Voting. Ramaphosa rejected suggestions that Muslims should distance themselves from electoral politics, saying they are an integral part of South Africa’s democratic project and have both the right and responsibility to participate in elections. “Muslims are part of the South African community, plain and simple,” he said. “Muslims are South African citizens of our country and they therefore, like everyone else, have a very important responsibility as citizens.” Voting The president framed his argument around what he described as six key reasons why Muslims should participate in elections, linking voting to equality, justice, accountability and the country’s liberation history. Ramaphosa said voting gives practical expression to the ideals first articulated in the Freedom Charter and later entrenched in South Africa’s Constitution. “The Freedom Charter declared that South Africa belongs to all who live in it,” he said. He added that Section 19 of the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to vote regardless of religion, race, gender or background, making electoral participation one of the fundamental pillars of democracy. Policies and decisions According to Ramaphosa, voting also enables citizens to influence policies and decisions that affect their communities and daily lives. He encouraged voters to carefully assess political parties and public representatives before making their choice at the ballot box. The president repeatedly returned to the issue of justice, arguing that elections provide citizens with an opportunity to ensure leaders remain committed to fairness, equality and human dignity. “Justice is about ensuring that everyone enjoys the rights and institutions of our country,” he said. Anti-apartheid activists Ramaphosa noted that principles such as justice, compassion and responsibility towards others are deeply rooted in Islam and should guide citizens when evaluating those seeking public office. He also called on South Africans to honour the legacy of Muslim anti-apartheid activists who played a significant role in the struggle for freedom and democracy. Paying tribute to figures such as Imam Haron, Yusuf Dadoo, Yusuf Cachalia, Fatima Meer, Ahmed Kathrada and Ebrahim Rasool, Ramaphosa said participation in elections was one way of recognising their contribution to the country. Holding presidents accountable The president further described elections as a powerful mechanism for holding leaders accountable, particularly as communities continue to face challenges such as unemployment, crime, healthcare pressures, education concerns and service delivery failures. Ramaphosa said citizens should use their votes to demand better governance and improved outcomes from those elected to serve them. “How do you make the president accountable? How do you make your councillor accountable?” he asked. Faith and democracy He argued that faith and democratic participation are not mutually exclusive and said South Africa’s Muslim community has a long tradition of civic engagement and public service. “The history of Muslims in our country is a history of faith, resilience, service and participation in the life of our country,” Ramaphosa said. Ramaphosa also highlighted South Africa’s International Court of Justice (ICJ) case against Israel, linking it to Nelson Mandela’s vision of justice and freedom for Palestine despite international criticism He concluded by urging Muslim South Africans to continue playing an active role in shaping the country’s future through the democratic process and by exercising their right to vote.

WATCH: Heated exchange between Kaizer Chiefs players after loss in Zambia
Kaizer Chiefs fans have questioned the club’s dressing-room atmosphere after a video showing a heated exchange between Reeve Frosler and Renaldo Leaner surfaced following their 1-0 defeat to Red Arrows in Zambia. Amakhosi suffered a narrow loss in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round tie, leaving themselves with work to do ahead of next weekend’s return leg in South Africa. A late goal handed Red Arrows the advantage going into the second leg, putting pressure on Chiefs to bounce back and keep their hopes of reaching the group stages alive. Kaizer Chiefs traveled all the way to Zambia just to lose & start civil war on the pitch.😭Leaner & Frosler quarreling like teenagers coz they can’t handle 1-0 reality check in Zambia.U luv 2see total meltdown."Phefeni Glamour Boys" but the only thing glamorous is tears! #CAFCC pic.twitter.com/NiR2FO9rnH— 𝒴𝑒𝓁𝓁𝑜ℳ𝒶𝓃𝕏💛👆 (@YELL0MAN) October 18, 2026 Kaizer Chiefs players clash Although the match was not televised, videos circulating on social media have offered a glimpse of the drama that unfolded on the pitch. One clip that has caught the attention of supporters shows Frosler and goalkeeper Leaner exchanging words after the final whistle. In the video, which is less than 20 seconds long, Frosler appears to point a finger at Leaner before a teammate escorts him away. Leaner also appears to exchange words with the right-back before Bruce Bvuma steps in to calm the situation. The incident has sparked debate among supporters, with some questioning the leadership within the Chiefs squad and suggesting that the problems at the club run deeper than their latest defeat. What Kaizer Chiefs fans are saying One supporter, @Mpillow, claimed that the incident could point to deeper issues within the Amakhosi dressing room. “Problems at Kaizer Chiefs are much deeper than we think. Abo Frosler wants to issue hands on our new signings instead of encouraging them. Looks like that dressing room is a mess; something has to be done ASAP before we find ourselves in NFD. Sorry Leaner bro,” the fan wrote. Another supporter, @Vhakhonimajor, called for Frosler to face consequences following the incident. “If Kaizer Motaung Jnr is fair, Frosler must follow Cele immediately. We don’t need such players, especially during this period,” the supporter commented. Meanwhile, @kamva____20 questioned the team’s coaching and leadership, suggesting that the club’s struggles extend beyond the players. “The dressing room is messed up; we have a puppet, not a coach. We play kaak under coaches who don’t know English; we were better last season under those translators who know English and tactics,” the fan wrote. The defeat to Red Arrows has increased the pressure on Kaizer Chiefs to deliver a strong performance in the return leg as they look to keep their continental campaign alive. The exchange between Frosler and Leaner has added to the frustration among supporters, although the short video does not establish what sparked the disagreement between the two players. Can Amakhosi bounce back?

Can Pirates and Sundowns meet in the CAF Champions League group stage?
After an intense MTN8 final, football fans would love to see Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns meet again in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League. With both South African giants aiming to qualify for the 16-team group stage, some supporters have questioned whether the two teams could be drawn into the same group. Unfortunately, Pirates and Sundowns cannot be drawn into the same CAF Champions League group if the competition’s rules prohibit clubs from the same national association from sharing a group. The draw regulations determine how teams are allocated to the different groups. The rules are designed to prevent clubs from the same country from meeting in the group stage, ensuring that teams from different national associations are represented across the groups. Both South African sides are currently competing in the second preliminary round as they seek to secure places in the group stage. Pirates and Sundowns eyeing group stages Orlando Pirates faced Namibia’s African Stars in the first leg in Gaborone, securing a 1-0 victory to put themselves in a promising position ahead of the return fixture. Mamelodi Sundowns, meanwhile, are scheduled to face Angola’s Wiliete SC away from home in their first-leg encounter as they look to take a step closer to qualification. Should both teams advance to the group stage, they would be placed in separate groups under the applicable draw regulations. An all-South African showdown between Pirates and Sundowns could still happen later in the competition. If both clubs progress beyond the group stage, they could meet in the knockout rounds, depending on the draw and the tournament’s regulations, or potentially in the final. For now, both teams must first navigate the preliminary rounds before turning their attention to the possibility of another showdown on the continental stage. Do you want the two teams to meet in the final?
