Rampant All Blacks crush Wallabies 43-21 to extend dominance
Beauden Barrett and Josh Moorby both scored twice as a rampaging New Zealand swept past the Wallabies 43-21 in Sydney on Saturday to stretch their win streak over them to 13 Tests. The All Blacks ran in seven tries to the hosts’ three, reinforcing the gulf between the teams after a 50-19 thrashing in Auckland last week ensured they retained the Bledisloe Cup. New Zealand led 36-7 after a devastating first-half before the hosts rallied to limit the damage in the second spell at a packed Stadium Australia. Peter Lakai, Rieko Ioane, and Wallace Sititi also dotted down for the visitors, with Jeremy Williams, Tom Wright and Filipo Daugunu crossing for Australia. The last time Australia beat New Zealand was at Brisbane in 2020 when current All Blacks coach Dave Rennie was in charge, before he was sacked three years later to make way for Eddie Jones. The same venue will host the teams for a Rugby World Cup pool match in a year’s time, with Wallabies coach Les Kiss having plenty to do before then if he wants to turn the tables. Both sides now head to Europe to conclude the Nations Championship, with Kiss and Rennie facing tough calls on who to take with them as the World Cup build-up gathers pace. Frenetic start The afternoon match in front of 73,399 fans started at a furious tempo with the All Blacks — who were dealt a blow before the start when Jordie Barrett was ruled out injured — facing intense early pressure. But they soaked it up then launched their own attack which culminated in winger Moorby wrong-footing two defenders. It opened the floodgates with veteran fullback Beauden Barrett crossing again five minutes later in the corner. Another two minutes on the clock and it was 17-0 and game over with flanker Lakai in support after Damian McKenzie exploded through the middle. The embarrassment continued for Australia when Ioane’s pace and power drove him over out wide after the Wallabies lost a lineout. Australia pulled a try back through Williams but he was then sin-sinned for being offside, and the All Blacks exploited the one-man advantage. Sititi scored seconds later from the scrum before Barrett bagged his second after an intercept and 75-metre run as New Zealand led 36-7 at half-time. It was more of the same as the second-half got under way with Moorby again the hero after a devastating counter-attack, dummying brilliantly to score in the corner. Kiss refreshed his forward pack and Australia began to get back in the game, with a second try coming courtesy of winger Wright after good work from Max Jorgensen to finish a sustained attack. It turned into a frantic contest with the Wallabies finding momentum and substitute Daugunu weaved past a tiring New Zealand, who played the last 10 minutes with a man down and the last five with two down, to close the gap further.

Maresca says Man City ‘more together’ after financial charges
Enzo Maresca believes Manchester City are “more together” after the club was found guilty of over 100 breaches of Premier League financial rules. The club overcame a hostile Anfield atmosphere to beat 10-man Liverpool 3-0 last week in their first match since the verdict to make it six league wins out of six. City boss Maresca said after the win the team needed to make their own “noise” to drown out the distraction of events off the pitch. The Italian was bullish at his press conference on Friday despite this week’s 4-2 defeat in the Champions League by title-holders Paris Saint-Germain. “I think probably since the noise we can see, I can see from my personal point of view the fans, the club, the team more together for sure,” he said. Manchester City, who maintain their innocence, are appealing against the guilty verdict, delivered by an independent commission. Maresca, who has repeatedly reiterated his “trust” in the club hierarchy, said he understood the intense focus on the issue but he warned against a rush to judgement. “I don’t have any problem with people judging the situation — I think from my point of view the wise way to judge the situation is always to wait for the final words,” he said. “But I can understand that now people need to speak about this situation.” A home win over Ipswich on Saturday would make Maresca the first manager in Premier League history to win his first seven games in charge. The list of those who have had six straight wins includes his celebrated City predecessor Pep Guardiola, who achieved the feat in the 2016/17 season. But former Chelsea boss Maresca, whose team are three points clear of defending champions Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, insisted his focus was not on personal achievements. “To be honest I’m just focused on how we can win the game that gives us the opportunity to go seven games in a row, so 21 points that is important, so this is the only thing that I’m trying to be focused on,” he said. “These kind of records, I think they can be good if at the end of the season you achieve something, otherwise they are not important. But for sure the main focus for me is how we can try to beat Ipswich tomorrow.”

More than 40 Limpopo learners hospitalised after falling ill
A total of 43 learners from M.E. Makgato Secondary School in Seshego, Limpopo, were taken to hospital after experiencing diarrhoea. The Limpopo Department of Health confirmed the incident on Friday, 16 October, revealing that 13 learners were still receiving medical treatment. The incident has raised questions about what caused so many learners from the same school to fall ill. 43 LIMPOPO LEARNERS TAKEN TO FOUR HOSPITALS Provincial health department spokesperson Neil Shikwambana confirmed that healthcare workers attended to the affected learners at four medical facilities. These include Seshego Hospital, Helen Franz Hospital, Botlokwa Hospital and WF Knobel Hospital. In an interview on Friday, Shikwambana confirmed that 13 learners remained under medical care at Seshego Hospital. The department did not provide further details about the condition of those learners or confirm when the others were discharged. WHAT CAUSED THE LEARNERS TO FALL ILL? Health authorities have yet to establish what caused the learners to experience similar symptoms. The department has not confirmed whether the incident involved food poisoning, contaminated water or another possible source of illness. It also remains unclear when the first learners developed symptoms and whether they consumed the same food or drinks before falling ill. No deaths have been reported in connection with the incident. Further information is expected to clarify what caused the illness and whether the remaining learners have recovered.

The 10 Kruger National Park camps with the BEST views
Kruger National Park is famous for its wildlife, but where you stay can be just as memorable. Some camps overlook rivers, dams or valleys, while others offer elevated views across the surrounding bushveld. Here are 10 camps to consider if scenery is high on your list. Views for days at these Kruger camps CampWhat makes the view specialOlifantsElevated views over the Olifants RiverLower SabieSabie River and Lebombo MountainsLetabaLetaba River and surrounding bushveldMopaniPioneer Dam and mopane-covered koppiesSkukuzaSabie River and lush riverine vegetationBerg-en-DalRugged mountain landscapeBiyamitiMbiyamiti River and dense bushTalamatiOpen valley and surrounding grasslandShimuwiniLetaba River and large riverine treesSirheniRemote northern bushveld setting 1. Olifants Olifants is probably the standout if dramatic scenery is what you’re after. The camp sits on a hill high above the Olifants River, with lookout points overlooking the river and surrounding landscape. SANParks describes it as an “unforgettable window of Africa”. 2. Lower Sabie Lower Sabie combines two classic Kruger views: a river in the foreground and the Lebombo Mountains beyond it. The camp sits directly on the Sabie River, making it particularly attractive for visitors who want to combine scenery with wildlife viewing. 3. Letaba Letaba is positioned on a sweeping bend of the Letaba River. The river and surrounding greenery provide a striking contrast to the drier bushveld, while the area is also particularly good for elephant viewing. 4. Mopani Mopani overlooks Pioneer Dam and is surrounded by mopane-covered koppies. The dam provides an additional attraction, with animals and waterbirds often gathering around the water. 5. Skukuza Skukuza may be Kruger’s biggest and busiest camp, but its setting along the Sabie River gives it a particularly attractive side. Lush vegetation and tall trees line the river’s edge. 6. Berg-en-Dal Berg-en-Dal is the choice for something different. SANParks describes it as the only camp set in a rugged mountain environment, with a landscape quite different from the river views at camps such as Lower Sabie and Olifants. 7. Biyamiti For a quieter bush setting, Biyamiti is worth a look. The small bushveld camp sits on the banks of the Mbiyamiti River, surrounded by large wild fig and jackalberry trees. 8. Talamati Talamati offers a different kind of scenery, with the camp positioned in a large open valley. The surrounding grassland attracts herds of grazing animals, while the open landscape also creates good opportunities for game viewing. 9. Shimuwini Shimuwini is a good choice for visitors who like river scenery but want a quieter setting. The bushveld camp is associated with the Letaba River and its large riverine trees, including enormous baobabs. 10. Sirheni Sirheni, in the north of Kruger National Park, is another option for a more secluded bush experience. It is one of Kruger’s smaller bushveld camps and is close to the Pafuri area, making it particularly appealing to visitors who want scenery, tranquillity and a different side of the park.
